This project restored a portion of the 2.1 acre vernal pool in Fairview Park. The project prepared a restoration plan, collected and dispersed inoculums to restore an un-vegetated path that bisected the vernal pool, installed educational signage, and organized tours to local schools and the public.

This project facilitated the transfer of ownership of key wetland/riparian habitat within the Ventura River Parkway Plan area to the Ventura Hillsides Conservancy from willing private landowners, including acquisition costs, the development of restoration plans, and the implementation of community-assisted biological surveys, site clean-ups, and nature activities–partnering with local students, volunteers and resource professionals.
This project involved UCSB student interns and Kids in Nature (K-12) students in the restoration of a 1/2 acre freshwater wetland on the north shore of UCSB Campus Lagoon. The site was degraded, weed-dominated, but an amazing opportunity for freshwater expression on campus.
Three restoration events at sensitive wetlands sites provided local teenagers with the opportunity to restore degraded habitat while learning ecological concepts. The teens presented their experiences to the community at large at an annual event attracting 1500 visitors.
Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary used volunteers to remove non-native plants and to restore willow, mulefat, sycamore habitat that was denuded after the Oct. 2007 fire and May 2008 flash flood. The Sanctuary also expanded its K-12 education program to include the topic of watershed health.
