Project Lead/Grantee:
The River Project (Melanie Winter, winter@theriverproject.org)

The project will develop a 30% design plan set and supporting scientific and engineering studies to transform the Los Angeles River and tributary corridors within the Sepulveda Basin’s constrained streams, narrow riparian corridors (existing: ~60 acres) and disconnected uplands into roughly 8 miles and 600 acres (450 new acres) of restored meandering stream corridors, wide floodplains and thriving riparian corridors. Project goals include: expanded flood storage capacity, improved flood attenuation, increased groundwater recharge potential, increased regenerative wetland and riparian habitat areas, improved water quality, and expanded accessibility to stream ecosystems for the community, all through restoration of geomorphically functional channels and floodplains.
