Laureles Canyon in the City of Tijuana Mexico drains into Goat Canyon and the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve (TRNERR) in the United States. In the late 1990s, partners working to protect, enhance and manage the TRNERR commenced a comprehensive sediment management program for the watershed. In August 2003, the TRNERR Watershed Program commissioned a watershed diagnostic of Laureles Canyon. Recommendations included a combination of community projects, water and sediment control structures, and preservation of undeveloped portions of the watershed.
