San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy (Doug Gibson 760-436-3944)

This project removed exotic plants from approximately 2.4 acres along the southern edge of San Elijo Lagoon and replanted the area with native riparian and buffer species. The project area is one of several targeted for removal of exotic species int he San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy Action Plan, which the Coastal Conservancy adopted in May 1999. Many exotic species have little or no habitat value to native wildlife and often preclude the growth of native plant species.

This project was the first project in an extended effort to rid the lagoon of exotic species and reestablish the native vegetation.
