This community-based watershed stewardship program will focus on removing non-native Arundo donax and replanting with native riparian species in the Upper San Diego River. This program will build on the existing partnership between Back Country Land Trust (BCLT) and Second Chance-San Diego, and engage inner city, at-risk youth in environmental service-learning projects throughout Alpine’s creeks and streams. BCLT will utilize 50+ volunteers from local school and community groups for a total of ~100 hours of volunteer service during the project period. Partner groups include the City and County of San Diego, the San Diego River Conservancy, local fire districts, tribal entities, and several non-profit partners.
