Fairview Park Vernal Pool Restoration

This project restored a portion of the 2.1 acre vernal pool in Fairview Park. The project prepared a restoration plan, collected and dispersed inoculums to restore an un-vegetated path that bisected the vernal pool, installed educational signage, and organized tours to local schools and the public.

Southwest Grand Canal Lagoon Restoration

This project aimed to regenerate, enhance, and protect wildlife and habitat connectivity along the Grand Canal, as well as protect plant and animal species of special concern and enhance their recovery, prevent erosion of lagoon banks, and protect and restore native plant communities.

La Sierra Lake and Creek Enhancement at Seminole Springs

This project brought together the Mountains Restoration Trust and the Seminole hot Springs Home Owners Association to restore wetland buffer habitat areas supporting the La Sierra Lake. The project aimed to reduce erosion into La Sierra Lake while building community awareness and stewardship.

Ventura River Parkway Land Acquisitions and Community-Assisted Stewardship Planning

This project facilitated the transfer of ownership of key wetland/riparian habitat within the Ventura River Parkway Plan area to the Ventura Hillsides Conservancy from willing private landowners, including acquisition costs, the development of restoration plans, and the implementation of community-assisted biological surveys, site clean-ups, and nature activities–partnering with local students, volunteers and resource professionals.

Wetland Enhancement at UCSB

This project involved UCSB student interns and Kids in Nature (K-12) students in the restoration of a 1/2 acre freshwater wetland on the north shore of UCSB Campus Lagoon. The site was degraded, weed-dominated, but an amazing opportunity for freshwater expression on campus.

Teens Restoring Sensitive Wetlands Habitat at San Elijo Lagoon

Three restoration events at sensitive wetlands sites provided local teenagers with the opportunity to restore degraded habitat while learning ecological concepts. The teens presented their experiences to the community at large at an annual event attracting 1500 visitors.

Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary Riparian Restoration Education Project

Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary used volunteers to remove non-native plants and to restore willow, mulefat, sycamore habitat that was denuded after the Oct. 2007 fire and May 2008 flash flood. The Sanctuary also expanded its K-12 education program to include the topic of watershed health.

The project implemented native upland plantings located in areas selected by youth to enhance awareness and encourage public use of the channel and future development of a loop trail to connect the Dominguez watershed with other natural and cultural resources, such as Compton Creek, LA Harbor, and local beaches.
